OK, West of the Boulevard folks, you brought it on yourselves. Just because you have identity issues doesn't mean you need to start something. I am over here doing the finger-wag and saying "Oh, no, you DIH-int!"
Researching yet another baseball post (ugh!), I came across this link, to the West of the Boulevard newsletter. Note at the top, the tag line reads: "Awesomer than the Fan."
People, I beg to differ. Until a few (5? 7?) years ago, you might recall you were named "The Upper Fan." Then, apparently having some sort of crisis of confidence, you decided you needed your OWN name, and became "The Museum District." [Never mind that the only real museum in your "district" is the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, which actually sits on Boulevard, which not only has it's OWN neighborhood association, but also is a member of yours, after you extended the invitation for them to join, maybe because someone realized that's the only way you'd end up with the museum you needed to justify your name.]
[ASIDE: Whew! That was a long, convoluted sentence. Did anyone else besides me follow it?]
West of the Boulevard, I have lived in Ashland, which claims to be the "Center of the Universe." I have lived in the Museum District, back when it was still called the Upper Fan. And I have lived in the Fan proper. I can say, without any doubt, that the Fan is clearly the awesome-EST, and indeed, the TRUE center of the universe. [Sorry, Ashland.]
So, you just go ahead thinking you are "Awesomer than the Fan!" Poor things. WE know the truth.
The offended ones should at least admit that being "awesomer that the Fan" is a pretty lame motto and shows just a bit of envy. Never the less, if it weren't so gosh darn far from downtown, I'd move there.

Keep trying, then. You'll get there one day.

Melissa - you are wrong on two counts. The area was never called the Upper Fan - that was a slang term used by people who didn't know any better. The official name was West of the Boulevard, which is also the name of the historic deistrict designation. It became the Museum District about a decade ago. And there can never be a crisis of confidence among us as long as we have the Fan and Church Hill to brag about how great they are.
And it would be safe to assume from your post that you have never visited the Virginia Historical Society which is a top flight museum recounting Virginia History. Don't be afraid to use some of that famous Fan overconfidence to cross the Boulevard one day and visit it.
